what is acne?
Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. It can affect people of all ages but is most common in adolescents and young adults. About 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne to some extent ranging from mild to severe. In some cases, acne can continue and reoccur in adult life. About 5% of women and 1% of men have acne over the age of 25.
Acne causes spots, oily skin and sometimes skin that is hot or painful to touch. It can appear as whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, or cysts and is most often found on the face, neck, chest, and back. Blackheads and spots (comedones) appear on the surface of the skin, resulting in breakouts which can lead to scarring. Acne most often occurs due to hormonal changes and/or diet issues.
Suffering from acne can be a very lonely experience and can have a devastating effect on self esteem. Many of our patients discuss the long lasting impact acne has had on their self-confidence. How can you treat Acne?
Common acne treatment options include:

over the counter
These are topical creams, lotions, and gels that contain acne-fighting ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid which can be effective for mild to moderate acne treatment.

Prescriptions
If OTC treatments are not effective, Dr. Anil may prescribe a stronger medication. Retinoids are topical medications that unclog pores and reduce inflammation, whereas antibiotics help kill the bacteria that can cause acne.

Chemical peels:
Chemical peels use a solution to remove the top layers of skin, revealing a new, smoother layer of skin underneath. They can help reduce the appearance of acne scars and improve the overall texture and tone of your skin.

Laser therapy
Laser therapy uses intense and focused light to kill bacteria and reduce inflammation in the skin. It can be effective for treating acne and acne scars and in some cases may require multiple treatments.

Dermapen

tca cross
Acne scarring is the result of damage to the skin’s collagen and elastin that occurs when pores become inflamed or infected with acne. When the acne lesions heal, they can leave behind scars that range in size and severity.
TCA (trichloroacetic acid) is a type of chemical peel that can be used to treat acne and acne scars. TCA peels use a solution containing trichloroacetic acid to remove the top layers of skin, revealing a new, smoother layer of skin underneath. TCA peels are typically used for medium-depth peeling and can be effective for improving the appearance of acne scars, uneven skin tone, and fine lines.
retinol for acne
Retinol is a type of vitamin A found in acne treatment products. It works by increasing cell turnover, which helps to unclog pores and reduce inflammation. Retinol can also stimulate the production of collagen, which can help improve the appearance of acne scars.
Retinol is available in a variety of forms, including topical creams, lotions, and gels. It is most commonly used at night as it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. When using retinol, it is important to start with a lower concentration and gradually increase the strength as your skin becomes accustomed to the product.
PROFHILO
Profhilo is the first BDDE-free stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) based product for treating skin laxity. It has one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market and is not only boosting and hydrating to the skin, but it also remodels the ageing and sagging tissue.
The product remains in the skin for around 28 days and during this time it encourages the stimulation of 4 different types of collagen and elastin resulting in significant tissue improvement.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to keep the skin plump and hydrated. The treatment involves injecting small amounts of Profhilo into the skin at strategic points using a very fine needle. The hyaluronic acid then works to hydrate and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, resulting in a more youthful, radiant appearance.
Roaccutane
Roaccutane (also known as Accutane or Isotretinoin) is a prescription medication that is used to treat severe acne that has not responded to other forms of treatment. It belongs to a class of medications called retinoids, which are derived from vitamin A.
Roaccutane works by reducing the amount of oil produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin, which can help to prevent acne breakouts. It also helps to unclog pores and reduce inflammation in the skin, which can further reduce the severity of acne.
Roaccutane is usually taken orally in the form of capsules or tablets. Treatment typically lasts for several months, and patients are usually closely monitored by their healthcare provider during this time to ensure that the medication is working effectively and to monitor for any potential side effects.

Celluma Pro LED Therapy
Celluma Pro LED Therapy is a type of light therapy that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to target and treat acne. The treatment involves placing a specially designed LED panel directly over the affected area of skin, where it emits blue and/or red light in specific wavelengths.
Blue light therapy works by targeting the bacteria that can cause acne, helping to reduce inflammation and prevent new breakouts from forming. Red light therapy, on the other hand, helps to reduce inflammation and promote healing, which can be beneficial for reducing the appearance of existing acne lesions.
Celluma Pro LED Therapy is a non-invasive and painless treatment that can be used alone or in combination with other acne treatments, such as topical medications or oral antibiotics. The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes, and patients may require multiple sessions over several weeks to see optimal results.
