Dermapen® is a highly advanced skin rejuvenation therapy system, treatment available at Dr Anil’s clinic.
Dermapen®, a highly advanced skin rejuvenation therapy system, is now available. This is a pen-like device with 11 fine, 33-gauge needles vertically inserted into the skin at such a rapid pace that the client experiences little pain or discomfort.
The Dermapen’s multiple, vibrating needles pierce the skin several hundred times per minute to enhance rejuvenation and collagen stimulation and is far safer than other methods. Because the Dermapen® is fully adjustable, it is easier to treat delicate areas around the nose and eyes. The treatment also helps to minimize pore size and it can be combined with platelet rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate collagen production and speed healing.
This treatment is used to help patients with all skin types and is a corrective and preventative therapy to treat fine lines and wrinkles, manage acne scars or other injury scars, improve skin texture and colour from melasma patches, reduce stretch mark/cellulite appearance and stimulate new collagen growth. Skin creams can also be absorbed more effectively and seep deeper into the skin after Dermapen treatment.
As the Dermapen stamps over your skin, it creates micro-point punctures in the skin. This controlled damage stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Thus, the skin is tricked into repairing itself. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. You encourage your skin to continue healing through this micro-needling process.
The process of micro-needling skin remodeling can go on for months after each Dermapen treatment. Results can be seen within a week.Your skin naturally heals itself every 45 days, so with a little micro-needling stimulation changes can be dramatic and fast
Dermapen skin needling can be safely performed on all skin colours and types. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is a considerable advantage that skin needling has over lasers and chemical peels.
The procedure normally takes 30-45 minutes depending on the required treatment and site. A topical aesthetic is applied to your skin prior to treatment. The DermaPen is then moved over your skin to puncture the upper layer of the skin and create tiny punctures. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which can last for up to a year. The wounds close within an hour.
Visible results are seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and improve further over time. A course of 4-6 DermaPen sessions is recommended to achieve optimum results. However skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment.
DermaPen can be used for all areas just as the needle roller but can also be used for tight areas. Rollers are dependent on hand pressure and the depth may vary, whereas the Dermapen depth of penetration is set precisely with an electronic dial. There can also be lateral trauma to the skin when the needles on a roller pull out of the skin as the wheel turns. Dermapen which relies only on vertical needle action and there is no risk of lateral trauma.
The skin will be red in appearance, similar way to a sunburn and will also be tight.This will settle down greatly after a few hours and within 24 hours the skin will be completely healed. After 3 days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.
Yes,very safe. Allergic reactions and side-effects are very unlikely to occur. It is minimally invasive, involves minimal downtime (approx. 24hrs), rapid healing and requires only simple after-care.
Although DermaPen will induce collagen synthesis on its own, skin improvements are significantly enhanced by combining skin needling with the topical application of Mesotherapy (vitamins, anti-oxidants, hyaluronic acid) and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) which uses your body’s own growth factors to increase collagen, elastin and overall skin health.

Contraindications and precautions include: keloid or raised scarring,history of eczema, psoriasis and other chronic conditions, history of actinic (solar) keratosis, history of Herpes Simplex infections, presence of raised moles, warts or any raised lesions on targeted area. Absolute contraindications include: scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities, Rosacea and blood clotting problems, active bacterial or fungal infection, immuno-suppression, scars less than 6 months old and facial fillers in the past 6 months.
Side effects experienced with the DermaPen will usually subside within 24-48 hours. They include redness, stinging, itching, and tightness of the skin.
