LUMPS AND BUMPS

Lumps and Bumps are a common skin concern that can occur on any part of the body. They can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, cysts, tumours, and inflammation.

Acne is a prevalent skin condition that causes blackheads and pimples which can cause lumps and bumps on the skin. This can affect people of all ages but is most commonly found in teenagers. Cysts are also a common condition whereby fluid-filled sacs form under the skin causing bumps. These cysts often develop due to infections and blockages of hair follicles or sweat glands.

Moles are dark spots found on the skin. They can be flat or raised and in most cases are usually benign. Moles arise where cells called melanocytes have clustered together. Melanocytes produce melanin pigment which gives your skin its colour. They may change shape or colour with time and some may even disappear. Moles are mostly harmless, however sometimes they can develop into skin cancer. Very large moles have a  higher risk of developing skin cancer. Some are more likely to progress into a malignant melanoma (a type of skin cancer).

Dr Anil has extensive experience in evaluating and diagnosing lumps and bumps and moles. Dr Anil strongly recommends that  clients book in for an immediate consultation if any new lumps or bumps are discovered or if a mole has changed shape or size.

Skin Lesions: eczema & psoriasis

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition that causes itchy, red, and inflamed skin. It often appears as patches of dry, scaly skin on the face, arms, and legs. Eczema is not contagious and is often triggered by environmental factors, such as dry air, irritants, and allergies. It is most common in children, but can affect people of any age. People who are most at risk of developing eczema are usually prone to allergies of various kinds but it can also be genetically inherited. Environmental factors also play a role such as extremes in temperature.

Psoriasis is a common and chronic disease that causes red, itchy scaly patches most often found on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp. Psoriasis can however be found anywhere on the body and often tends to go through cycles with symptoms flaring up for a few weeks or even months and then subsiding or going into remission.

Psoriasis can be caused by a number of factors, namely from genetics, stress and in some cases smoking. Psoriasis affects around 2 in 100 people in the UK but most often develops in adults between 20 and 30 years old and between 50 and 60 years old. That said, psoriasis can occur at any age and it affects both women and men equally.

Dr Anil is highly experienced in the treatment of both Psoriasis and Eczema. He can offer clients safe and effective treatment options using a combination of medications, such as topical creams, ointments, and lotions, as well as recommendations on lifestyle changes to successfully alleviate symptoms.

Skin Tags

These are smaller benign growths that hang from the skin and are often located on the neck and armpit regions. Skin tags are very common and normally found around areas of friction such as the underarm. They are harmless but can be both unsightly and irritating for patients. Most benign skin concerns are no longer treated by the NHS.
